Samsung Galaxy Round delivers a flexible OLED display

It was not too long ago when we reported that LG would be mass producing flexible AMOLED displays within this year, but their domestic (and on the international front, too) rival, Samsung, has apparently beaten them to the punch. Why do we say so? Well, Samsung Electronics has officially announced the Samsung Galaxy Round, which is the first curved display smartphone in the world that will hit South Korea this October 10th. So far, Samsung has been a mobile display innovator over the years as they introduced the likes of color TFT-LCD, AMOLED, and Super AMOLED displays, so to see the Samsung Galaxy Round arrive with a flexible display is definitely something worth checking out.

With such a pioneering curved display technology, the Galaxy Round will merge the latest smartphone screen innovations alongside unique design features. Coming in a sleek and thin form factor, the Galaxy Round will sport a 5.7” Full HD Super AMOLED display, with a chassis that measures just 7.9mm thin, while the entire shebang weighs in at 154 grams to deliver a comfortable hand grip feeling to user, as well as exclusive experiences of a curved display.
Since this is the first of its kind in the world, the unique curved design would allow users to take advantage of round integration experiences such as the Roll Effect which allows one to check out information such as the date, time, missed calls and battery in a jiffy even when the home screen is turned off. Apart from that, there is also the Gravity Effect which will be able to create a visual interaction experience with the screen simply by tilting the device. In terms of music, the Bounce UX would let you control your music.
There is no word on pricing at the moment, but we do know that the Samsung Galaxy Round will first arrive in South Korea in a shade of Luxury Brown, and knowing Samsung, additional colors will be made available in due time.
