Taiwan’s Fair Trade Commission fined Apple 20 million Taiwanese dollars (almost $670,000) after finding out that the company is interfering in iPhone carrier pricing in the country, according to a report from WSJ. The commission found that Apple was telling Taiwan’s three main service providers, including Chunghwa Telecom, Far Eastone Telecommunication, and Taiwan Mobile, to adjust iPhone rates.
Apple has the option to appeal against the decision taken by the Taiwanese commission, however the company may face a fine of up to 50 million Taiwanese dollars (almost $1.7m) if the company fails to comply with the initial decision of the company.
“Through the email correspondence between Apple and these three telecom companies we discovered the companies submit their pricing plans to Apple to be approved or confirmed before the products hit the market,” the commission said in a statement, according to the WSJ.
Additionally, the ruling only applies to iPhone pricing in the country, and the commission mentioned that they have no plans to investigate if the Cupertino-based company is interfering in the price of iPads in the country.
