DIY 1MW Pulse Laser Gun

This custom pulse laser gun is packed with a 1 Megawatt laser capable of destroying a multitude of materials.  The 1 MW laser is able to be battery powered becuase it only pulses on for a fraction of a section to burn through plastic (and even wood) instantly.javascript:;
The handmade pulse laser gun took 70 hours to build and has a brass and aluminum finish with a bit of plexiglass.  At just 32 cm long, it’s compact and light enough to carry.  The batteries can fire 50 shots on a single charge of its Li-ion batteries. While there aren’t any build details available, you can check out our other DIY laser projects for inspiration.

Paintball Pistol Turned Sniper Rifle

There’s a huge price discrepancy between paintball pistols and paintball sniper rifles. So the [Fresh-Prints-of-3D] decided to print himself an sniper upgrade kit. He started with the classic Tippman 98 Custom pistol , which is a tried and true industry standard when it comes to reliable paintball guns. Using Sketchup he designed a side loading hopper adapter, a fixed stock, a magazine adapter, various brackets, and even a bipod fore-grip.
Paintball Pistol Turned Sniper Rifle

He then printed the parts out at his local hackerspace; Innovatrix Labs, which is in Northeastern Pennsylvania. A Portabee 3D printer was used for some of the first prototypes but the final parts were all printed on a large MendleMax2 which has a build area large enough for the entire fixed stock! The best part? He’s only been using SketchUp for a few months. Once the design and build is completely finalized he might release it under a CC license.

It just goes to show that 3D printers are really breaking down various markets of overpriced plastic components — 3D printers only print trinkets? Pfft.

SMAC Mag: Spider’s Minimal Analog Control Paintball Gun

[Spider!]‘s contribution to the pantheon of paintball markers is the SMAC: a unique revision to one of Airgun Design’s ever-popular Automags. We needed our tipster, [Russell] to provide some context on the Automag’s evolution, because the brand has served as a popular hacking platform for nearly 20 years.
SMAC Mag: Spider’s Minimal Analog Control Paintball Gun
The most frequent is a “Pneumag” modification, which converts the original, fully-mechanical trigger pull into a version where the trigger actuates a pneumatic cylinder to fire the gun.
According to [Russell], the Pneumag’s trigger must completely release between each shot to properly recharge the firing chamber. Without a full release, the gun can load extra balls into the barrel and lead to gloppy consequences. Electronic controls solve this problem, but [Spider!] favored an analog solution that captured a “less is more” mentality over a pre-fab microcontroller board. He built the circuit around a 556 timer used as a delayed re-trigger, but with a few modifications.

The Ping Pong Gun with a Deadly Punch

You wouldn’t want to be in close range of this beastly pneumatic ping pong ball gun. A ping pong ball is hardly destructive. But filled with water and propelled by compressed air, the tiny balls become painful projectiles. How painful? Well, the ball penetrated through plywood board and drywall.
The Ping Pong Gun with a Deadly Punch
The gun is long barreled and carries a magazine of 14 ping pong balls filled with water. The magazine is a short cylinder which holds the 14 shots and loads them one at a time into the long barrel with a press of a trigger. The second press of the trigger pneumatically pressurizes the gun. Press the trigger again and the air gets released through a valve. The sheer pneumatic force launches the ping pong ball.
Here’s a look at the parts of the gun:

The pneumatic ping pong gun made by Ron Kessinger runs off of a compressed air line and a standard wall outlet.  See the gun in action in the top video and in three more videos.

DIY Office Pranks: Concealed Ping Pong Ball Gun

We’ve covered some superb office pranks in the past, (such as filling a cubicle with packaging peanuts) and this project is another incredible addition to our collection.  Created by the ModLab, this robot hides in your unsuspecting officemate’s ceiling tiles.  Then, when movement is detected below, the ceiling tile is lifted and the victim is pummeled with a flurry of ping pong balls.  I love it!
Now if only the rate of fire was increased…Muahahaha! Few project details have been released, so stay posted and check out the video for now.

RFID Zapper Destroys RFID Tags

Radio Frequency Identification, or RFID, has some pretty incredible capabilities but this hacker is appearently not a fan.
RFID Zapper Destroys RFID Tags
His gun just looks plain menacing, featuring the coil which destroys the RFID tag, MP3 player for effect, and, of course, LEDs.  The gun uses a quick electromagnetic burst which flows through the tag and fries the RFID chip.  Check out more details on the project.

DIY “Riot-Ready” Super-Powered Super Soaker

As the snowpocalypse melts away and temperatures begin rising, this SUPER Super Soaker is just the thing to beat the heat.  Basically, it has the same general pressurization properties of a standard gun, but it emits a powerful blast like a fire-hose instead of weaker, short bursts.  The look of this water blaster is similar to the commercially available Super Soaker fun toys.  The difference is, this one is meant to use pressurized air to shoot water over a long distance with greater power and accuracy.
The gun has an onboard water reservoir, a spherical rubber bladder, and a trigger system, all in a black finish. The water in the reservoir is pressurized with a pump-bladder system and the compressed water is released from the nozzle with a press on the trigger like a standard water gun.
DIY “Riot-Ready” Super-Powered Super Soaker
The ranges of fire varies depending on the nozzles used but the maximum is a about 50 feet.  Check out our most popular summer projects below:

Mass Effect 2 Assault Rifle Replica

With the incredible variety of FPS games around, there’s no shortage of inspiration for DIY replica gun projects. The best part of this precise replica of the M8 Avenger Assault Rifle from the Mass Effect series is that it’s cheap to build.
Mass Effect 2 Assault Rifle Replica
You will need to know how to use rotary tools for cutting and beveling because the gun is fashioned from a sheet of medium density fiber (MDF) board. Most of the other parts came from recycled bits (like the spare LEDs for the muzzle flash).  Check out the full build instructions to create your own or the Flickr gallery to view more details.

How to: Shoot Bullets Through a Propeller!

World war 1 biplanes utilized mechanical interrupter gears for strafing with a machine gun though the propellers. Cut to the 21st century when the same task has been achieved using a microcontroller-based solution. The idea is to time the firing of the bullets between the blades of the propeller so that the propellers can stay undamaged and you can hit your target.
How to: Shoot Bullets Through a Propeller!
The unique project uses an Airsoft gun which can spit out a pellet at the rate of 20  milliseconds (the rate was calculated using an oscilloscope and an infrared sensor).  The rotational speed of the propeller is checked with an IR sensor to setup the trigger delay.

DIY Electromagnetic (HERF) Gun Project

This DIYer built his own Microwave HERF (high-energy radio frequency) gun by using parts from an old microwave oven. The electromagnetic gun works just like a normal microwave with a high energy source triggering a magnetron which produces microwave radiation at 2.45GHz. The targeting part is a waveguide made out of metal which directs the microwaves in one direction instead of letting them scatter.

DIY RC Airsoft Gun Turret using Recycled Parts

Just a few modifications and you can turn a harmless tupperware cake dish into a DIY airsofturret.  All it takes is a microcontroller, servo, IR receiver, and an airsoft pistol to transform an everyday item into a turret Airsoft gun.  It can also be controlled using an IR TV remote control.
DIY RC Airsoft Gun Turret using Recycled Parts
The Airsoft gun project has been deliberately been kept simple so anyone can use this as a starter airsoft project. Servo motors enable a platform to swivel up to 180° left and right with a tilt of 45°. A press on the TV remote sends an IR signal to a microcontroller which then decodes the signal and controls the turret’s  pan, tilt, and fire.  Get the instructions on how to build your own tupperware airsoft turret

Absolutely Stunning Portal Gun Replica

The Portal Gun (or the Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device) is a handheld teleporting device from the popular game Portal.  The gun was built by a company who specializes in movie props and it was auctioned off for charity.  Lucky for us though, they posted detailed pictures of the entire build so we can learn from the pros.
Absolutely Stunning Portal Gun Replica
Using brush on molds, the main parts were shaped with a general purpose casting resin. The middle barrel was fashioned from a PVC pipe and MDF for the front. The acoustics and illumination for the prop are given careful thought as they create the cool effects: The gun turns on with a ‘boot up noise’ and there are separate sound effects for the blue and orange portal beams. The precise finish makes the prop very close to the original.
